A Note To Parents
Short on time, and just want to launch a video? We have created a handy link for you to be able to sort through video stories to find the ones that are age appropriate, or time appropriate, under our "View Just Videos Link". This way you can bypass the Magic Library and get straight to the videos. We also have made a "Fun Activities" link for you to be able to find coloring sheet downloads, activity guides, and other freebies in a snap of a finger! Both of these are located on Mrs.P's main page for your convenience.
While we have created guidelines to help you select which stories might be appropriate for your child, every child is different – and nobody knows your kid better than you. Use our guidelines, but more importantly, use your judgment. Is your child more mature than most? Less mature? Easily frightened? Not scared of anything? Take these qualities, as well as her or his vocabulary skills, attention span, personal interests, etc., into account when helping your child select a story.
Finally, remember that all of the stories on this site are classics of literature that have enriched the lives of generations of young readers. While a story may not be to your child’s particular taste, you can rest assured that it will be the very finest in children’s storytelling.
Mrs P's Reader's Guide
RATED 3+: For ages 3 and over.Easy to understand, gentle of theme and pretty much nightmare-proof.
RATED 6+: For ages 6 and over.Still easy to understand, with a few bigger words. The themes might be a little darker and there might be a bit of fairy-tale violence. Most kids won’t be too scared of or upset by anything here.
RATED 9+: For ages 9 and above. A little more sophisticated storytelling. The themes and vocabulary are more thought-provoking and challenging. There might be some violence, which may be more realistic and less cartoon-y. Sensitive kids might be frightened by some aspects of the story.
RATED 11+: For ages 11 and above.Literature for mature kids and young adults. Sophisticated and challenging themes, realistic human interactions that may involve violence and intense emotions. There may not be a happy ending. Even older kids may be a little scared by something.
